Lusso x The Burrows

Nestled in the Welsh hills, the Burrows is a quirky farmland escape created by Amy and Tom Jones – avid fans of the Lord of the Rings franchises. The Burrows pose as cosy cottages in the farmland, almost camouflage against the Welsh greenery with the buildings showing particular reference to the hobbit-homes of the movies.

Located on Dolassey Farm in Wales, the three cottages are all fitted with sanitaryware products courtesy of Lusso and beautifully designed, allow you to sit back, relax and appreciate farmland serenity, all while immersing in the luxury of a Lusso freestanding stone bath. We chatted with Amy Oakley-Jones who told us all about the inspiration behind the Burrows and why she chose the Notion bath.

Can you give us some background on The Burrows and the different lodges on the farm?

“Dolassey is a 300-acre working family farm, situated in Powys, Mid Wales. Three years ago we built our first holiday home after we felt it was time to diversify. We had such amazing feedback and coverage that we’ve since built two more into other hillsides on the farm. All our lodges are within walking distance of each other but also offer total privacy and it’s unlikely you’ll cross paths with anyone (except some curious sheep). The Burrows sleeps five, The Warren sleeps seven, and our newest lodge The Nest, that we launched this Autumn, sleeps four.”

Tell us all about the inspiration for The Burrows, did you source different inspirations for each lodge or did all of them take influence from the Lord of the Rings movies?

“Although we like the Lord of the Rings, our main focus initially had been to create something quirky that didn’t interfere with the farm’s unspoilt views. Green roofed lodges built into a hillside provided the perfect solution. They are almost completely hidden from above and seamlessly blend into their surrounding landscape. They blend in so well that sheep, rabbits and other wildlife get onto the roof without realising they have a lodge below them.”

Where did you source your inspiration for the interiors of the lodges?

“I’m a graphic designer and get very excited about patterns and strong pops of colour. I drew lots of inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram as well as my favourite high street interior brands like Cox and Cox, Anthropologie, Farrow and Ball, Zara home, Oliver Bonas and Soho home.”

What was it that made you choose Lusso Stone products?

“I had my eye on Lusso Stone products for a long time. Each product is contemporary, elegant and timeless but also well crafted and durable. Although aesthetic is really important to me, durability is also essential in holiday retreats.”

Why did you choose the Notion bath?

“People come here to escape and relax and the Notion bath was a key part of that. I wanted to create a relaxing bathing experience that you don’t encounter at home. The huge round Notion bathtub was exactly that!”

You have also used Lusso basins throughout the lodges however which product is your favourite?

“We have a range of polished and matte basins. My favourite is the Lanosa wall hung basin. I love how contemporary it looks and the hand finish gives it a beautiful organic texture. Its shape allows plenty of opportunity for additional styling.”

How was your experience when dealing with Lusso?

“Lusso were always a pleasure to deal with. They were very helpful in answering our questions and fantastic at communicating throughout the ordering and delivery process. Lusso Stone will always be my go-to for bathroom design.”
