How do you clean stone basins?

Our smooth, strong and durable stone resin is a beautiful material for your bathroom and providing you care for it appropriately, your stone basin will last for a lifetime.

A low maintenance material, although thorough aftercare is essential to maintain its original state. Your stone basin should be cleaned at least once a month and immediately after use to avoid stains and to maintain an immaculate surface. Simple cleaning methods include rinsing and drying the surface with warm water to prevent residue and soap scum building. If scratches are present on your basin, simply follow cleaning methods as usual, though instead of allowing your bath to dry you should ensure the surface is still damp before using a sponge scourer to lightly rub our composite stone cleanser over the surface of the basin.

We’ve put together a list of steps you should take in order to keep your stone basin in an immaculate state:

  • Clean immediately after use
  • Clean any damage immediately
  • Clean with warm soapy water
  • For polished stone basins, you should Invest in a polishing kit to clean scratches and stains
  • For matte stone basins, you should sand and polish with a wet and dry sandpaper pad.
  • Do not use scouring pads or abrasive cleaners
  • Do not use cleaners containing acid including vinegar and lemon juice
  • Do not clean with a concentrated bleach
  • Do not clean with shampoo

Do stone basins stain?

There are chances that stains could appear on a stone basin. If tough stains and dirt are present, the basin will need a deeper clean than usual with warm soapy water and normal surface cleaners. Depending on the finish of your basin – matte or polished – it is possible to remove deep scratches. A professional stone mason is required for polished basins and matte basins can easily be repaired with a sandpaper pad.

How do I repair a stone basin?

As stone resin is a renewable material, minor scratches and damage can be removed by following a few simple steps:

  • Use a fine-grit sanding pad (approximately 400-600 grit) to begin removing the scratch.
  • Rub the scratch in a straight motion, not circular, and switch direction every so often.
  • Ensure the entire scratch is removed and shaped to match the surrounding area.
  • Clean the surface with water.
