How To Clean A Stone Bath
Stone resin is a low maintenance material, although thorough aftercare won’t go unnoticed. Small steps aid in the prolonged beauty of your stone resin bath, including rinsing and drying the surface each time you use your bath to ensure soap scum isn’t present. If the bath requires a deeper clean, soapy water, ammonia-based cleaners and surface cleaners will remove dirt from a stone composite bath. The level of cleaning required is dependent on the colour of your bath, with scratches more visible in darker tones than on a white bath.
One of the most common queries we hear from stone bath users is why the surface of the bath has suddenly taken on a blotchy appearance. This is caused by hard water building up on the surface and being left to dry, leaving an unattractive film that will stand out from the rest of the smooth bath.
To remove the film, follow these simple steps:
- Take a clean, damp cloth and a mildly abrasive cream cleanser and pour the cleanser onto the cloth.
- Rub the cleanser over the blotchy area using small circular motions, start from the front and move towards the back before repeating the process from side to side. This will ensure that all of the surface is covered thanks to the overlapping circles.
- Once covered, take clean water and rinse the surface completely. If the blotchy marks are still present, repeat the above process with more pressure.
- Dry the surface once done and ensure you remember to rinse and dry the bath after each use going forward!
How To Remove Scratches From A Stone Bath
As your stone bath ages, so will the amount of wear and tear that it succumbs to. Stone resin is a renewable material which means if scratches are present on your stone bath the surface can be renewed back to its immaculate condition.
- Firstly, you should give the damaged area a thorough clean. This gets rid of any film on the surface of the bath that could stop you reaching the scratches below.
- Ensure the surface is still damp and use a sponge scourer to lightly rub, as hard pressure could cause more scratches to appear.
- Use a straight line motion to rub over the scratch, changing to a horizontal motion every now and then to cover the full area. Rinse the pad as you are doing this to remove any residue that has accumulated on the sponge.
- Check to see that the scratch has been removed before using clean water to rinse and dry the surface. Once dried, you will be able to see if the area you have treated has blended in with the rest of the bath surface. If it is highly noticeable, try repeating the steps with a larger area of the stone bath to help with blending.
How To Prevent Damage To Your Stone Bath
Although the low-maintenance stone is easy enough to care for, you need to prioritise that nothing else will potentially harm it. Taking measures such as avoiding harsh chemicals near your bath will aid in quality protection, as strong surface cleaners or paint remover can permanently damage the surface. Protection from heat appliances is also essential, such as hair straighteners or curling tongs.
Do Stone Baths Stain?
Soap scum is a common aberration which often appears and stains bathtubs. It’s important to rinse and dry the surface of your stone bath after each use to ensure soap scum isn’t present, as this could result in staining. Although it’s possible for stains to be present on stone baths, you can follow simple steps to prevent this. A stone polishing kit can be used for our polished stone baths, or a non-acidic soap scum remover can be used, as this does not dull the surface of polished stone. You should follow cleaning methods as usual, however, ensure the surface is still damp before using a sponge to lightly rub our Composite Stone Cleaning Solution over the surface of the bath. It’s important to make sure the cleanser has perfectly blended with the rest of the stone, if highly noticeable repeat the steps until the stain is invisible and back to its immaculate finish.
