In the universe are billions of galaxies. In our galaxy are billions of planets. But there is Only One Earth. This powerful statement is the main message behind this year’s World Environment Day, in which the theme is #OnlyOneEarth.
This dedicated day is the biggest international day for the environment and has become an annual day since its introduction in 1974. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), this day is a yearly reminder that the way we treat our planet is vital for our future, and we must partake in all measures possible to ensure a healthier world which we live.
Hosted by a different country each year, this year’s World Environment Day is held by Sweden. The slogan #OnlyOneEarth is to spread awareness that our earth is the only liveable planet in the galaxy and to ensure that it remains liveable, we must act now. From actioning to reduce waste, combating climate change and using natural resources, what do you do that contributes to a safer, more sustainable environment?
At Lusso, we’re proud to be huge advocates of protecting our planet, that said we follow plenty of measures throughout the production of our products, sourcing of our materials and everyday life at Lusso HQ. We’ve listed below just a few main factors which work to protect the planet.
Waste: “From 1950 to 2017, an estimated 9.2 billion tons of plastic was produced, 7 billion tons of which has become waste.” At Lusso, we make sure all recyclable materials are placed into recycling facilities and we combat the use of single-use plastics where possible. We only use glass bottles in our HQ, which are available to all staff and visitors, to ensure that there is no need for plastic bottles in our headquarters.
Natural sourcing: All of our materials are sustainably sourced, from our Durastone which is a renewable resource to our sustainably-sourced marble from around the world. Our wood is also FSC certified which means that it’s certified by the Forest Stewardship Council to ensure that the gold standard in ethical production is met when managing and harvesting the world’s forests. We also avoid the use of toxic chemicals or glazes in our production processes.
Water-saving: As well as supplying and manufacturing water-saving products, we have these ingenious products installed in our HQ. Including our Filtrata boiling water tap which ensures that water is preserved where possible. For example, as opposed to the standard kettle that most households overboil, our Filtrata tap ensures that the water being used is only the amount necessary. These products also have other benefits that are in sustainable favour, including the elimination of purchasing bottled water, which is both economical and sustainable.
These are just a few small measures that we can each take to protect the world we live in, and each measure is part of a collective effort and a continual process to gradually improve our world.
