HOW TO CLEAN TRAVERTINE
Although travertine has a superior reputation and the historic distinction of having been used extensively during the Roman Empire, this type of natural stone still requires care and maintenance. Similar to marble, travertine stone is a porous material and needs the correct aftercare. Take a look at the simple steps and recommendations on how to maintain your travertine bath or basin.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Non-abrasive cleaner or soap
- Soft cloth
AFTERCARE
1. Use warm water and a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the travertine surface on a regular basis.
2. Wipe the surface dry with a soft cloth.
3. Attend to spillage immediately with a soft, dry cloth. We recommend using a very mild soap to clean the spillage, however do not use this frequently as it can discolour the stone overtime.
4. The porous structure means that it risks being chipped, dulled, or stained by cleaning products and techniques. Deep stains will need to be professionally re-grounded and polished, by a specialist. Any large cracks and deep chips that may appear on your marble will risk having to get the marble completely replaced.
5. Reseal your travertine stone at least once a year. This can be done professionally or by using a sealer such as More™ Premium Stone Sealer.
RECOMMENDATIONS
- Avoid the use of harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners.
- To avoid the risk of stains, use placemats under hot items such as hair appliances and coasters under beverages.
- Protects the surface from acidic substances such as wine, coffee and acidic cleaning materials.
- As a natural and porous material, avoid using sharp or heavy objects on the surface.
